A Prairie Stroll
A Prairie Stroll is an immersive multimedia installation featuring dozens of hand-dyed panels of silk, linen, muslin, organza, and cotton gauze, ranging in length from 38 to 75 inches and 9-15 inches in width. Each hand-printed textile panel has as many as 100 individual prairie grasses. Suspended from The Dow Art Gallery ceiling, the panels will be arranged to create a winding pathway. As visitors navigate the passage, their movements will displace air and generates subtle currents, causing the lightweight fabrics to sway and mimic the rhythmic, wave-like undulation of a living prairie.
“Interactive Art” Experience: Unlike traditional exhibits, this is an interactive art installation, engaging children and adults to touch the panels with their hands – and their full bodies as the panels sway. Navigating the path, visitors’ physical presence causes the panels to undulate, simulating the experience of walking through a tall grass prairie.
